The Facts About Diamonds
The cutting and proportioning of a diamond is the only
characteristic of the four diamond characteristic that
man can actually control. Diamonds that are not cut to
Ideal proportions are cut this way for one reason and
one reason only... to retain the maximum weight from
the original rough. If a cutter wants to increase the
carat weight of a diamond he can add weight to the
bottom of the stone by cutting the pavilion deeper.
Unfortunately by changing the angles on the back this
will allow light to "leak" out through the sides of the
diamond. The result is a dark spot in the center.
When a diamond is Ideally cut, light rays from all sides
are bent towards the center of the stone and are
reflected back through the top in a blaze of light.
Because more of the original rough diamond must be
sacrificed to achieve and ideal cut, only a small
percentage of diamonds are cut this way. All diamonds
have some brilliance, but an Ideal cut diamond will
offer the most brilliant diamond possible.
Dodrill's has a huge inventory of Ideal cut Lazare
Diamonds® and Lazare Diamond Jewelry® The Lazare
Diamond® Trademarked in 1985, adhering to these
ideal proportions, exemplifies what polish can do for a
diamond. The Lazare Diamond® not only has the
correct proportions, but has the greatest symmetry and
finish.

Because Lazare Diamonds® are the best cut diamonds
in the world, each diamond is Laser inscribed with a
logo and an individual identification number on the
edge, only visible under magnification. The logo is your
proof of authenticity as an Ideal cut Lazare Diamond®
Diamond Facts
Carat weight, color and clarity are the qualities that
seem to receive the most attention when selecting
diamond jewelry. But it's the quiet member of the
foursome, Cut that brings out the best the stone has to
offer. Not to be confused with shape, cut refers to the
arrangement of a diamonds facets. While diamonds
offer more brilliance than any other natural stone that
brilliance only becomes apparent when a skilled
polisher has the ability and has taken the time to polish
each facet at the precisely correct angle for maximum
effects.

Formulas, devised in 1919 by Marcel Tolkowsky,
established the 58 facet Ideal cut round diamond, also
called the brilliant.
